Why English matters

English is one of the main languages of international communication today. It opens doors to work, study, travel and the knowledge available online. Software, device manuals, online courses and announcements from international organizations are very often written in English.

Everyday examples: a hotel employee gives directions to a foreign guest, a manager writes a short email to a partner, a student reads the entry requirements on a foreign university’s website, a programmer works through technical documentation. Even ordinary shopping or setting up a phone becomes easier when you know English. Knowing the language gives you the confidence to notice new opportunities and make use of them.

What you will learn and do in class

The program lasts 6 months, consists of 48 lessons and takes you from level A1 to level B1. Classes follow a communicative methodology — most of each lesson is spent speaking. Grammar is taught in context rather than in isolation.

A1 — foundations. You start with the alphabet and pronunciation: saying sounds correctly and writing down words you hear. Basic grammar — “to be”, the present simple, forming questions — is learned through real-life situations. In everyday speech you will practice introducing yourself, talking about your family and job, and getting by in a shop or café, all through role-plays.

A2 — consolidation. At this stage you work with past and future tenses: describing your weekend and explaining your plans. Vocabulary is built topic by topic — work, health, travel, shopping. You read short texts — notices, messages, short articles — answer questions about them and complete short writing tasks.

B1 — intermediate. You learn to build complex sentences and link cause and effect. To practice supporting an opinion, you hold discussions in pairs and groups: stating your point of view and backing it up with reasons. For listening comprehension you work with audio and video at different speeds, learning to pick out the main idea and important details.

Practice. The conversation club strengthens your ability to speak freely. A weekly conversation club runs alongside the course, where you can also practice with participants from other groups. Under business correspondence you practice reading letters and emails and writing replies. The program ends with a final examination.

How English is used at work

The working day of someone who uses English depends on the field. In an office they read and answer emails from foreign partners, make sense of documents and product descriptions, and take part in online meetings. In tourism and services they talk directly with guests and answer their questions. In education and IT, staff often learn from English-language materials and keep their knowledge up to date.

Whatever the setting, the core skills are the same: understanding what you hear, replying clearly and politely, and interpreting written text correctly.

Language skills grow at work through constant practice. Many professionals set aside a little time each day to read news in English, keep a list of professional terms and re-read the emails they write. It also matters not to be afraid of mistakes: you learn faster when you make an error in conversation and correct yourself. That is why classes focus above all on speaking freely.

Where these skills are used

English is an added advantage in many directions:

  • retail, tourism, hospitality and services;
  • office work, international projects and correspondence;
  • learning IT, design and other digital professions;
  • preparing to study abroad or at local universities.

The course takes you up to B1. After that you can continue to higher levels or start focused preparation for international exams. Getting a job or a study place depends on your own efforts — the course gives you a reliable language foundation.

How to prepare before the course starts

  • Review the Latin alphabet and the names of the English letters.
  • Learn 10–15 new words every day using flashcards or free apps.
  • Listen to short videos, songs or podcasts in English — first with subtitles, then without.
  • Try switching your phone’s language to English — it quickly teaches everyday words.
  • Write a few sentences about yourself and read them aloud.

To take part, you need to be willing to study independently for at least 3 hours a week — start building that habit now.

What format are the classes? Depending on the group schedule, offline (in the association’s training centers) or online. Plan for around 6 hours of classes a week plus independent work.
